As promised at our last PAC meeting the VPD school liaison officer has forwarded the following additional information and resources.
Internet Safety and Information Resources This is a small collection of some of the websites that have been used for information regarding children, youth and families dealing with internet issues. There are many websites available so take the time to find the one that is best suited for you and your family by searching on line. Many of these websites are Canadian but some are from the United States. Remember the internet has no borders and neither does the opportunities for us to learn in protecting our children.
Apps list Please note that the apps list is from 2016 and new apps are always being created, so the apps your kids are using might not be on the list.

What is an EdCamp?
A day of networking and sharing with educators, students and parents from Vancouver and neighbouring schools. The morning begins with participants proposing and voting on the session topics they want. Based on votes, organizers will create a session schedule. Participants have the opportunity to engage in discussions about current and future-oriented teaching and learning. Sessions are expected to be facilitated discussions (not presentations), where every participant has the chance to contribute their perspective. By the end of the day, participants come away with a good understanding of other people's perspectives on key educational issues. There is also going to be a daycare onsite, if you have any small children and need some childcare. Where: Gladstone Secondary, 4105 Gladstone Street, Vancouver, BC (5 minute walk from Nanaimo Skytrain Station) When: Saturday, February 4th, 2017 Time: 8:30am - 2:30pm More info: vsblearns.ca February 21, 2017 6:30 -8:00pm in the Library Learning Commons

During this open and informational session, parents will come to terms with sexual health, and understand how it fits into the lives of their children at this stage of life. Attendees will discover how to easily overcome embarrassment when talking about sexual health, learn words and concepts that are easy to use, and leave well equipped to clearly answer the questions children ask. The workshop is light hearted, but delivers straight and current facts on how parents and children can work together to promote good sexual decisions for a lifetime. All parents and guardians are welcome. Childminding will be provided. Please RSVP HERE January 11, 2017 7:00pm - 8:00pm in the school Library Learning Commons
