Hello Livingstone Community,

Thank you to all the teachers, parents and staff for the successful Teacher Parent conferences this week. It was so nice to be back in the school and speak to the teachers in person, if you were able to.

Halloween

With Halloween tomorrow, here’s hoping for rain free trick or treating for all our little ghosts and goblins! If the weather holds up, the children’s costume parade will be held at Memorial Field at 11:10am and parents are welcome to attend to see the children in all their Halloween glory!! If it rains, then the parade will be held indoors and families will not be able to attend.

Reminder: Please remember to keep fairy wands that might get lost and toy swords and weapons at home as these aren’t appropriate for school even if they are part of a costume theme.

Fall Fund Drive — FINAL WEEK

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Fall Fund Drive! We are falling short of our goal for this year and need a push to make sure we have the funds to contribute to our teachers and direct classroom experiences for our children.

This is our only fundraiser where you will receive a Tax Receipt! With year-end fast approaching, here is your chance to get another tax receipt. Contribute directly to activities for the school without buying "stuff". BUT worry not, if you like all the stuff ... we will still have clothing and chocolate sales coming (see below for Purdy’s Fundraiser details)!

As a PAC we believe in supporting our teachers and encouraging their creativity and experimentation by supplementing VSB or non-VSB funded programs. With this added support from our Livingstone community, we can ensure our teachers are not out of pocket as they enrich our children's education. Our goal is $50 per student.

Purdy’s Chocolate Fundraiser

With Halloween almost past us, it’s time to think about … more chocolate!  The Livingstone PAC is doing a winter holiday Purdy’s Chocolate Fundraiser!  We have set a fundraising goal of $10,000.

FUN LUNCH! Pizza Day!

Pizza day was by far the busiest Fun Lunch so far! Over 220 orders (which took 2 drivers to deliver) and we had 20 large pizza bags filled with lunches for our kids to enjoy! Let’s keep the orders coming!

Photo Retakes: Will be this week, Thursday November 3

Rainy Day Clothing: Please make sure to send your child to school each day with a raincoat and appropriate shoes. We recommend that all students at least keep one change of clothes: extra pants, socks, and shirt at school to change out of wet clothes in case they get wet during recess and lunch.

FUN LUNCH UPDATE

PAC is bringing back the Fun in Lunch! After 2 weeks our Fun Lunch program has been a huge success. With almost 200 orders placed for the Sushi and Subway, the kids are enjoying the variety!
Using an easy to use website http://www.munchalunch.com/schools/livingstone/ you can easily place orders for the weeks and items that you and your child are interested in. The fall program will include Pretzel Dogs, Subway, Sushi and Pizza!

Fall Fund Drive
Our first PAC Fundraiser, Fall Fund Drive is now underway! Information cards were sent home this week and this is one our biggest fundraisers of the year. This is a direct donation drive where donors are issued a tax receipt for their donations. This your chance to contribute directly to our programs without having to purchase more “stuff”!!

Fun lunch can be ordered at http://www.munchalunch.com/schools/livingstone/. Orders are due Wednesday 11:59pm the week before you are looking to order.  We had an amazing first Fun Lunch with over 200 orders for lunch and many smiling faces! 


Parent Survey
Reminder to fill out the parent survey https://forms.gle/GrFVShXdJBUTNfA16 to help inform this year's new PAC Chairs.  Thanks to all that shared their feedback. It’s great to hear from the community which helps shape our direction for this year. We will leave the survey open for another week and would love additional feedback. 

Fall Fund Drive starts runs from October 12-25. 
Want to contribute to the school without having to buy more 'stuff’? The Fall Fund Drive allows you to contribute directly to programs that have a large impact on the children and their classrooms. Information will be sent home with your children on October 12 and our Facebook page will feature stories about how funds raised have been used to enrich the Livingstone experience.

The Livingstone PAC held its first meeting of the Fall term on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, on Zoom.  Minutes from the meeting can be found here: September 28 Minutes
 
BE HEARD. We did not have time for our Community Building and “Getting to know you” survey at the PAC meeting, so we have linked it here: Parent Survey.  It should take less than 5 minutes to complete and will help inform your PAC’s activities going forward.
 
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! October 5 is “World Teacher’s Day.” The PAC will provide small gifts to the teachers, but please encourage your children to make cards or notes of thanks to give to their teacher(s) on October 5th. You can print a free colouring template here.
 
TELL YOUR STORIES! As part of the Fall Fund Drive (coming up after the Thanksgiving long weekend), we want to hear from you and your kids.  What programs have the PAC funded that made a difference to you and/or your child? Please email your stories to [email protected]. We will feature one story every day of the Fall Fund Drive on our Facebook page: Livingstone School Community | Facebook

"In 2019, my daughter was in Kindergarten at David Livingstone. Funds raised by the PAC were used to bring in a special education program called "Project Chef." Students learned about food, were encouraged to experiment (I think my daughter tried 17 kinds of lettuce!) and got to make a meal from a recipe with the help of parents and teacher volunteers.  Since then, my daughter has been making salads for the family (sometimes for breakfast?!) regularly and I can tell it's had a lasting impact on her interest in food and cooking." ~The Clayton family
 
WALK-A-THON T-SHIRTS – Walk-a-Thon t-shirts from last Spring have arrived! Delivery will be made to the school the week of October 11.

FUN LUNCH REMINDERS Deadline for ordering is Wednesday 11:59 p.m. for the next Wednesday’s fun lunch. October 12 fun lunch is Subway, order by October 5. Please remember not only to order but to process payment by the deadline.
